All drivers who wish to drive on a vocational basis any vehicle in excess of 3.5t are required to engage in 35 hours of training every 5 years. The minimum length that any CPC course can last is 7 hours meaning they must attend 5 courses in each 5 year cycle.
The EU commission have reviewed the Driver CPC directive which now specifies that “a range of different subjects should be covered over the 35 hours. Therefore, DVSA wishes to emphasise that drivers must not unnecessarily repeat the same periodic training subjects within a rolling five-year period."
The Traffic Commissioners Office also stipulate that “Driver CPC training should either be varied or specifically tailored to a driver’s weaknesses. Taking the same courses repeatedly is not good enough. Failing to put structured development plans in place for drivers not only increases the risk of an incident occurring but would reflect very poorly on an operator if they were called before a Traffic Commissioner.”
For a course to be counted towards CPC hours it must be approved by JAUPT (Joint Approvals Unit for Periodic Training). All of our Driver CPC courses have this approval. We can offer various methods of delivery, ranging from individual attendance at any of our open courses to company specific group sessions either at our training centre or at operator premises where suitable. Group sessions can be adapted slightly to include company logo and specific references / documents to ensure relevance to your company procedures.
All of our CPC 7 hour modules have been designed to cover a range of topics in each to ensure that drivers gain the maximum knowledge in each session and to prevent overload of any particular element.
